Gretna Public Schools is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Kayl as the new principal of Aspen Creek Middle School. Mr. Kayl will officially assume the role beginning with the 2026–2027 school year.

Mr. Kayl currently serves as an assistant principal and athletic director at Aspen Creek Middle School, where he has demonstrated strong leadership, a deep commitment to students, and a collaborative approach to school culture. With more than 25 years of experience in education and a strong background in leadership, he brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to his new role.


Superintendent Travis Lightle said, “Mr. Kayl is a natural leader. He listens and makes calculated decisions based on what is best for students. We look forward to watching Mr. Kayl lead Aspen Creek Middle School into the future.” 


Throughout his career, Mr. Kayl has served as a teacher, coach, assistant principal, and athletic director, experiences that have shaped his student-focused leadership. His approach emphasizes clear communication, strong relationships, collaborative learning, and instructional practices that meet the diverse needs of early adolescents.


As principal, Mr. Kayl plans to focus on strengthening a positive school culture, providing high-quality instruction, and ensuring that Aspen Creek Middle School remains a welcoming and inclusive environment for all learners.
